It’s been a frustrating week for both teams trying to organise their respective Cup fixtures as both opposition teams declined to play us and in our case this not being confirmed until Friday afternoon.
Again pre match preparation was a bit disjointed due to the lack of a confirmed referee being available.
So big thanks to Carl Richardson for cutting sort his Christmas shopping expedition in Coventry city centre to affiliate our game.
Both teams had a number of noticeable absentees from today’s game and from the outset Broadstreet where able to capitalise on this quickly with Callum Tollett scoring a classic Scrum Half sniper try from the base of a ruck. Jay West Converted. Unfortunately, shortly after his try Callum had to leave the pitch with a head injury.
The second try of the day came from Miles where the rush defence caused confusion for Barkers on their own line which saw Miles pounce on a loose ball to score. Jay converted. Shortly after saw Elliot crossed the line to score from some very quick ball from a series of rucks. Barkers missed a penalty opportunity towards the end of the half, which saw the street go straight back up the field to score in the corner. This was scored by Luca, who in recent weeks seem to be a try machine. This was the last score of the first half.
The second half saw Broadstreet poor discipline allow Barkers back into the game from series of far too many penalties for being offside at the breakdown. The younger lads from Barkers put a good account of themselves in this half but were not rewarded with any score, with Broadstreet managing their discipline at critical parts of the field. Broadstreet manage to score in this half, from good handling in the backs and a couple of breaks from the half backs where eventually the ball ended up in Liam Doyle hands five metres which saw charging over the line for his first try of the season. Jay W converted.
