Broadstreet are proud to announce that they will host the BUCS Championsip Rugby semi-finals on the 9th March 2011. Last year was a fantastic spectacle of rugby with Leeds Metropolitan losing out to Loughborough 39-27 whilst defending champions Hartpury College suffered at the hands of UWIC, losing 22-20. The rugby exhibited expressed the talent on offer in the University system and Broadstreet are pleased that BUCS are bringing such a spectacle to Coventry and the Ivor Preece Field before the winners meet in the final at Twickenham.
University Rugby is one of the finest showcases for future international talent; from the victorious 2003 England World Cup Squad, Richard Hill (Brunel University West London), Martin Corry (Northumbria University), Kyran Bracken (University of Bristol) and Will Greenwood (University of Durham) all appeared at Twickenham in a BUSA Rugby Union Final. Last years 35-27 winners Loughborough have already had a number of their Championship team snapped up by proffessional clubs. Scrum half Henry Pyrgos is now a regular for Magners League side Edinburgh, Rob Wood has been taken on full-time by Worcester Warriors whilst captain Phil Burgess (who was MotM in Loughborough’s demolition of Broadstreet in National 2 North) has joined Cornish Pirates.
