THE road Twickenham begins for Midlands counties on January 27 when this season's National Under-20 Championship in the region kicks off.
The decision of Oxford University to withdraw from the competition means that there will be seven teams in the two Midlands groups this year.
The four-team Group A is the first into action with Warwickshire entertaining Leicestershire in Wednesday's opener at Broadstreet (7pm) followed by East Midlands v Stockwood Park in Luton on February 3 (7.30pm).
The three-team Midlands Group B gets underway on February 7 when Staffordshire host North Midlands at Longton's Trentham Lakes ground in Stoke.
The two group winners will meet in the Midlands final, at a venue to be decided on March 10, with the winners enjoying home advantage in the national quarter-finals on March 27.
The national semi-finals are scheduled for April 17 and the final, at Twickenham, on May 1.
Once again all matches in the Midlands groups will be officiated by some of the emerging referees from the Midlands, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire who will form teams of three.
