Burton Rugby Club

A rugby club founded by brewers in a pub has every chance of being successful and so it has proved for Burton Football Club, formed on Wednesday 5th October 1870 at the Swan Hotel, Burton on Trent. As such is one of the oldest rugby clubs in the world. Hence it's entitlement to call itself a Football Club not a Rugby Football Club.

The club changed it's name to Burton Rugby Football Club Limited, during incorporation in 2001.

Burton Rugby Club were promoted to National League III Midlands after winning the Midalnds 1 West league title last season. Captained by their centre and RFU development officer for Staffordshire Tom Bartram Burton averaged a score of 36 points per game and only lost twice. Top try scorer Tom Bartram also finished up as the top try scorer with more than 250 points thanks to a very potent back line. Burton were also loosing finalists in the Staffordshire cup finals. They kick off the 2010 - 2011 season with a Staffordshire cup game against Willenhall.

The club have recently been awarded the whole RFU seal of approval and look forward to remaining an amateur club and utilise the home-grown talent from the club’s very strong mini-junior section, having recently advertised on a specialist website regarding salaries were “negotiable” the club have clarified the matter stating their commitment to retaining their amateur status.
