Link with Cardiff University
Broadstreet began their connection with Cardiff University by signing former England schoolboy Brett Chatwin, who originally hails from Bulkington. Brett,
who has previously played for Nuneaton RFC, has been studying in Cardiff for the last two years and is a regular for the uni as well as playing for Welsh Premiership side Bedwas on weekends. At 5’11 and almost 15 stone Brett is a quick and powerful winger, he became the university’s leading try scorer in his first year by scoring in every game and was a prominent feature of their 2009 Varsity win over bitter rivals Swansea.
After commiting himself to Broadstreet for the season Brett decided to help the club’s recruitment, and he didn’t have to look too far to find some decent players. His housemate Mark Schropfer was also keen to play for ‘Street, and he impressed coach Tom Hoines in the pre-season game against Leamington by scoring on his debut. Scrumhalf Mark also has an impressive CV having represented Wales at U16s and 18s level, he is captain of Cardiff University and like Brett played last season in the Welsh Premiership. Although Broadstreet are particularly strong at scrumhalf with Jordan Simpson and Nick Thatcher being two of the best players at the club, Mark is confident he will strenghten the squad due to his versatility, being able fill in at any position in the back-line with confidence.
