Street Start Slow!

Broadstreet U19s faced Banbury at home and despite a slow start during which they conceded two tries ran out winners by 27 points to 12 in a game displaying some fine team play by the lads from Rugby Road.

Banbury Brace makes ‘Street Bite Back!

Defensive indecision gifted Banbury two well taken tries, one converted from wide out, on 9 and 19 minutes before the ‘Street lads took control. Several opportunities were squandered through dropped passes, as ‘Street took control up front, with skipper Mikey Tyrrell, Dan Falchini, Joe Di Marco and Alex Clarke all carrying ball powerfully, enabling the backs to exploit Banbury’s defence out wide, before centre Sam Vagg finished off one such raid three minutes from half time. Jack Howland missed the wide out conversion. Half Time: Broadstreet 5 Banbury 12.

That Man Vagg Again!

The second half was all Broadstreet as they posted 22 unanswered points through tries by that man Vagg again, replacement back rower Ryan Stewart and lock Dan Staunton and two conversions and a penalty from Jack Howland.

Sam Vagg’s second, third minute unconverted touch down, came after some lovely open play from the kick off, with ball being quickly moved through the hands by forwards and backs alike.

Howland Hoofs Home!

Seven minutes later Jack Howland struck a fine penalty kick after offside at a ruck by Banbury to give ‘Street the lead for the first time. Banbury did create chances but sound defence by ‘Street prevailed to keep their line intact throughout the second half.

Stewart Strikes from Six Inches!!

Seven minutes later a kick by Vagg was followed up by fellow centre Christian Lynam and Vagg to force a lineout, 7 metres out. From the ensuing catch by ‘everywhere man’ Lewis Clarke and a drive, Dan Staunton took the ball close, followed by hooker Kyle Bonsor, to within inches and finished off by flanker Ryan Stewart, in a series of power plays. Howland landed two points from wide.

Six minutes from full time Dan Staunton capped off an energetic performance with a try which came from Banbury’s defensive lineout resulting from replacement winger Saleh Ahmed being bundled into touch with the line looming. Banbury won the lineout but pressure by ‘Street’s forwards saw Staunton rob a defender to power over and cap a fine individual and team performance.
