Street Hit The Road To Bromsgrove
On Saturday Broadstreet RFC Firsts hit the road for the second week running, this time travelling to Worcestershire and the picturesque setting of Finstall Park, the home of Bromsgrove RFC, expecting a very testing afternoon in a game kicking-off at 3:00 pm.
Last season Bromsgrove RFC finished a very creditable fifth in the division, just seven points behind promoted Hinckley RFC. It was the highest position in the club’s history and culminated in defeating Bournville RFC 25-18 in the Final of the North Midlands County Cup.
Just two home defeats throughout the whole season, versus subsequently promoted Luctonians RFC and somewhat surprisingly the Glasshouse Lane outfit Kenilworth RFC, give testament to their headquarters being deemed 'Fortress Finstall'. Included in that impressive record of home wins was another high point of the season, the defeat of the eventual runaway Champions, Ampthill RFC.
During the campaign a hefty proportion of Bromsgrove’s tries came from the backs and particularly the wings, although the highest individual tally came from Full-Back Mark Coulson with ten. Fly-Half Ben Copson chipped in with 32 conversions and 17 penalties, scoring 150 points in total. Not resting on their laurels Bromsgrove have recruited well with the addition of prolific finisher Aidy Hales from Kenilworth (also ex-Rugby Lions RFC) and our old sparring partner Aussie hooker Nick Byron who touched down twelve times for Luctonians RFC.
Bromsgrove Rugby Club had enjoyed a great start to the 2010-11 season posting consecutive fifty plus point tallies against Peterborough RFC and Luton RFC, but were edged out 31-24 by Sheffield Tigers RFC last time out, again three of their tries coming from their wings, in a two point bonus performance despite the defeat.
Street will be looking for their third victory on their travels, but this really will be a tough one
Also on Saturday Broadstreet Thirds entertain Vipers RFC of Blaby, Leicester in a non-league game. With Street coming off the back of three impressive wins, Vipers can expect to be well tested at Ivor Preecec Field. Kick-off at 3:00 pm.
On Sunday Broadstreet Seconds welcome Silhillians RFC Seconds to Ivor Preece Field in the Preliminary Round of the Warwickshire Second Team Cup. With two defeats in Northamptonshire so far this season, the lads will be hoping for a change of fortune. As with all Warwickshire Cup matches (apart from the Final) the kick-off will be at 2:15.
