Broadstreet 3rds great start to the season came to an end in disappointing fashion against a youthful Leicester Vipers Second XV, whose greater organisation and quicker legs destroyed a much changed Street side under the stewardship of assistant manager Matty Stuart.

asatoThe day didn’t start too well when talisman scrum-half Paul Lydster was forced to withdraw after injuring himself in the warm-up, and with Staystrong on loan to the seconds, and skipper Chris Harrison warming the bench Street lacked the normal verbal encouragement which has served them so well this season. However some strong Street defence managed to hold Vipers off for 15mins until a penalty goal was quickly followed by a converted try by Vipers star man Wayne Kerr. Broadstreet 0 – Vipers 10

The game turned as Broadstreet were reduced to 14 men, when a stray Dave Stevens boot resulted in the “mistaken identity” sending off of in-form prop Aidy Jones. A huge volley of penalties then piled on further pressure and the first half ended Broadstreet 0 – Vipers 22.

Street made 4 changes at the break, and as a result began to compete more intensely at the break downs and tackle area, however this wasn’t to the referees liking, and the penalty count against Street began to mount.  Still level in the half, another straight red card for John Warne left Street aghast and down to 13 men, and effectively ruined the game.  On the ropes and refusing to give in without a fight, Street bravely resisted and began to make some impact at the fringes of the breakdowns helped especially by returning Street old boys Aidy Nightingale and Jason"Stone Hands" Donaldson.  At this stage the result seemed inevitable, but our bad day was to get even worse when Phil “Keith from the Office” Smith was sin-binned near the end. Now down to 12 men struggling to play rugby and blowing out of there arses, Vipers scored another 3 tries, however these were interrupted by a consolation try for YP after some good work from the 2 man Backrow.
