Broadstreet RFC’s Playing Strength Gradually Improves.
You Win Some, You Lose Some - Slowly, But Surely, We’re Getting There.
Over recent weeks, Broadstreet Rugby Club has witnessed a steady improvement in the numbers in and quality of the senior squad. Although injuries to key players can and do happen, there is a feeling within the Club that almost imperceptibly the comings and goings, not forgetting the returnings, are gradually
working in our favour. Yes, it’s a blow to have both Centres from last Saturday’s game against Hereford RFC added to the injury list, but in overall terms, at this precise moment, we seem to be in better shape to cope with the battles ahead. You can never know what’s around the corner, but the hard work of Head Coach Tom Hoines and Forwards’ Player/Coach Eddie Simkiss to improve the fitness, skills and organisation of the squad is quietly bearing fruit.

With Centres Jordan Simpson and Andrew Skene joining Physio Tim Trevail in the injury treatment room, it could be a opportunity for Centre Gary Challis to be considered for inclusion in the squad for the trip to Burton RFC, following his return on loan from Coventry RFC. Also coming into contention in the Backline may be Left Wing Brett Chatwin, following a period of illness, then injury. Although Scrum Half Mark Schropfer made an impressive league debut at Luton RFC in the opening game of the season, he has been out ever since with injury. The majority of the Street faithful don’t even know he exists.
Also struggling to return from injury is Tighthead Prop Nick Bingham which may put Demetri Theofanou in the picture once he becomes match-fit. Hooker Luke Truslove hit the road to fitness with a successful run-out for the Thirds against Newbold RFC. It is hoped that Stewart Hendry can put in a full eighty minutes since fighting off a bug, but none of the senior Backrowers can rest easy for snapping at their heels are the blond assassins Chris ‘Doddy’ Dodd and Chris ‘Ziggy’ Zutic, both of whom featured prominently in last weeks’ demolition of Derby RFC Seconds.
