French Connection Increases
It was welcome news for Broadstreet regular Quentin Doireau or as he likes to be called Frenchy 1, when he found out that Broadstreet had appealed to two more of his fellow French compatriots.
Quentin, never as loud as his trumpet-playing friends Antoine Navereau and Pierre Jeff Martinaud (Frenchie 2 and Frenchie 4 respectively, whatever did happen to Frenchie 3 ?) has severely missed the comfort of rugby players from France who share his vision of French style free-flowing rugby. However he has been pleasantly surprised by the recent acquisitions of Scrum Half William Vedreire and Centre/Wing Pierre Dubuy.
Identifying that Broadstreet 4th's (Amigos, Badgers, Classics, etc.) team were seeking a new name in our website poll, I suggested to Loper that we should respect and recognise our increased French contingent in some way. Rather than call the team Coventry France (its been done before by other nationalities, including the Welsh, the Scottish and the Irish, in many UK cities), I thought that we should acknowledge the fact that we have three French nationals playing for Broadstreet and should the possibility arise that Broadstreet welcome any more French rugby players wanting to play rugby in the UK, then maybe we should have a name in contention in our website poll, appreciating the fact that we have had another influx of French players. I have added a new name to the poll as an outside bet recognising Quentin, Antoine, Pierre, William and Pierre as Broadstreet Les Bleus. This equals Loper's Campbell-pleasing Amigos and blue is certainly less pink than some of the other suggestions in the poll.... It also means that we could have another colour of shirts for John Brown to aim to get sponsors for.
Momentarily shedding my impartiality in the poll, Allez Les Bleus ! ! ! ! !
Bienvenue au Broadstreet Rugby Club
