Rugby is the Winner
Those were the words as Warwickshire President Mr Bob Jones closed the annual Broadstreet Mini’s festival of rugby at Rugby road on Sunday October 17th.
Once again the weather blessed and made for the perfect conditions for Broadstreet to host what has now got to be recognised as one of the best Mini rugby festivals throughout the Midlands. Attended by eight Midlands rugby clubs fielding thirty two teams across six age groups totalling more than five hundred children the day was heralded a success.
Our congratulations go to the winning teams of:
- Old Coventrians U7’s
- Kenilworth U8’s
- Shipston’s U9’s
- Old Coventrians U 10’s
- Shipston’s U11’s
- Broadstreets U12’s
Events such as this show us how our great game can grow from the grass roots up. With all the clubs attending having healthy numbers of children enjoying a day out with their families and hopefully inspiring more young people to join our game. Remembering that these youngsters are our senior teams life blood and such events can only be a massive positive for rugby.
Our thanks go out to the army of volunteers that helped with car parking, running tombola stalls, first aid, administration etc etc. Not forgetting the coaches referees and of course the players.
Our special thanks go to Warwickshire and the RFU for assisting with the implementation of the pilot scheme for U 7, 8 and 9’s.
It would be unfitting not to mention the festival organiser himself Paul Hookham. Thanks Hooky! Great Day!
