Super Saturday Rugby in Aid of Myton Hospice
On Saturday 20th November, Binley Woods outfit Broadstreet RFC will be running 'Super Saturday' – their Second Annual Fundraiser for Myton Hospice. This Feast of Rugby sees four sides playing at home beginning at 1.15pm with Street Colts vs Moseley RFC Colts in the National Colts Cup, followed by 2.15pm kick-offs for Street 2nds vs Kettering RFC 2nds in a friendly and the Beavers in their Warwickshire 1 League match against Leamington RFC 2nds. The day will culminate in the 1st XV’s National League 3 Midlands fixture vs Malvern RFC (3pm KO).
To cater for the large crowd anticipated, from 7.30pm there will be entertainment from an Elvis impersonator, followed by singer Danny Cunningham, and there will be hot food and hot/cold drinks available throughout the day and into the evening. Once again there are some great raffle prizes this year, and the Myton Girls will be selling tickets and collecting donations. The last fundraiser was held to coincide with the National League Two North fixture against local arch-rivals Rugby Lions RFC, and was a phenomenal success with a crowd of 800+ raising over £3,000 for Myton Hospice. The event was covered by BBC Coventry & Warwickshire and articles were published in all the local papers.
The £5(adult)/£2(child) entry fee for the 1st XV’s game includes parking (subject to availability) and your matchday programme. The evening’s entertainment is FREE however and it is hoped that the raffle proceeds and donations will raise a total of more than £1,500.
So why not come and support your local teams and help us to raise money for a great cause!
The event is also a tribute to former Coventry RFC and Broadstreet RFC Hooker Andy “Fazza” Farrington, who died in November 2009 aged 52 after a courageous battle against cancer, and helps raise much-needed funds for Myton Hospice, who cared so brilliantly for him in the latter stages of his life. “Faz” made 239 appearances for his beloved home city club between 1977 and 1993, his last against regular visitors Dublin Wanderers at Coundon Road, and during his time there he also played 41 times for Warwickshire RFU, including two County Championship Finals at Twickenham culminating in the win over Kent RFU in 1985 Fazza also represented the Midlands Division at a time when there was fierce competition for the position of hooker from England players Steve Brain and Brian Moore.
