Broadstreet RFC were without a game last weekend when Silhillians RFC withdrew from the Warwickshire Cup just five days before the game was due to played. The consequence is that Street are awarded a ‘Walkover’ and Silhilliansare excluded from the competition for the 2011/12 season at both first and second team levels. Street return to National League 3 Midlands action this Saturday against Scunthorpe RFC at the Ivor Preece Field Rugby Ground in a game starting at 2:15pm.
Looking back, Scunthorpe’s first visit to the Street was to the old ground on the other side of Coventry's Eastern Bypass on 31stJanuary 1998 when Street scraped a 28-25 victory. Trying to find the return fixture for that season - there wasn’t one! In those days there were 17 teams in the league, so eight games were staged at home and eight played away.· It wasn’t until the first full season of the new millennium, 2000/01, that the now familiar home and away format was introduced. In reality, Street’s first ever meeting with Scunthorpe was during the preceding campaign on 15th February 1997, when Street travelled back from Heslam Park having lost 10-16.

The Heslam Park outfit, often referred to as the ‘Greens’ have returned to Level Five after gaining promotion from Midlands One East last season as Champions, pipping Old Northamptonians RFC by a single point. Joint leading try scorer last season with 19 tries was Woody (aka Rewiti Vaimoso) who is very well known to the Street as a fast and elusive wing, who will need to be kept in check. He was ably assisted by Tom Foster, Dave Garbutt and Chris Neal with 19, 18 and 14 tries respectively.
Broadstreet-RFC-First-Team-Image Mark Woollard had the kicking duties and weighed in with 296 points. Interestingly, the Greens Backrow contributed heavily with 28 tries - easily the highest in the division. This season Mark Woollard is the third highest points scorer in the division going into this game with 98 points, coming from 16 conversions, 21 penalties and one drop goal.· James Wade, Tom Foster and Woody are the Greens’ top try scorers so far, in a topsy turvy start having lost four games at home, but winning three games away.
The Greens played in the Notts, Lincs & Derby Counties Cup last weekend against Paviors RFC and lost at home again, going down 10-25. Broadstreet will need to be on top of their game to prevent Scunny’s fourth win on the road and to avoid a third consecutive league defeat. For Street’s selection issues Simpson Fit, But Stokes And Skene Face Fitness Tests.

Street Seconds romped to a resounding 38-5 win against Leicester Lions RFC Seconds last weekend, topping the league in the process and now have another home game at the Ivor Preece Field Rugby Ground in the Midlands Invitation Premiership League, this time against Kenilworth RFC Seconds kicking-off at 2:15pm.

Broadstreet-RFC-Third-Team-The-Beavers-Logo Street Thirds, the Beavers giving a needed run-out to a number of Badgers, were squarely beaten 10-38 at Coalville RFC when Kenilworth RFC withdrew with less than 24 hours to go. We are extremely grateful to Coalville RFC for stepping in at such short notice. This weekend the Beavers welcome traditionally strong Old Laurentians RFC Seconds to Ivor Preece Field Rugby Ground for a Warwickshire League 1 fixture kicking-off at 2:15pm. With similar results against recently played Earlsdon RFC Stratford-upon-Avon RFC and both teams boasting 100% league records something will have to give.
Street Fourths, the Badgershave the weekend off.

Broadstreet-RFC-Colts-Logo Street Colts make the trip to Kineton Road to face Southam RFC Colts in a Warwickshire U19s Merit League fixture commencing 2:15pm. Having edged out Earlsdon RFC Colts last weekend, the team’s management will be looking for unbroken concentration from the players to stick to the game-plan.
