Injuries start to bite. Recruits on the horizon?

With Wing Matty Fielder having to retire injured during the first half of last Saturday’s match, it transpires that he will be out for a number of weeks with a broken hand. Last week’s debutants, Fly Half Mark Rea, deployed at Centre and Tighthead Prop Blair Cooper from the bench, having both put in sterling performances against Malvern RFC are unfortunately unavailable for this weekend’s clash with Newport (Salop) RFC at the Showground, Forton Road. The long-term injury list continues to include Hooker Luke Truslove, Tighthead Prop Nick Bingham, No 8 Damian Taylor and Centre Andrew Skene.

Undergoing fitness tests on Thursday are Wing/Centre Brett Chatwin and Flanker Chris Zutic, who both missed the Malvern game, plus Second Row/Forwards Coach Eddie Simkiss.

On the plus side, Centre Jordan Simpson and Hooker Micky Hewitt are now available for selection. Others challenging to replace the injured, unavailable and anyone failing the late fitness tests are likely to be Front Rowers Ciaran Price Dave Irvine, Wing Edward Mbaraga, and the Dodd brothers – Flanker Chris and Scrum Half Jamie. A new recruit or two wouldn’t be inappropriate to ease the burden.
