Louie Hall may make a comeback
With the club’s top try scorer Brett Chatwin ruled out before last week’s 39-32 win over Malvern because of a shoulder injury, and with regular winger Matty Fielder breaking his hand in the same game there is a potential selection nightmare for the ‘Street coaches. This would normally open the door for regular 2nds and occasional 1st XV wingers Ed Junior and Dan ‘kemo’ Phillips for a shot at a starting place. However, a potential dark horse could put a spanner in the works for the pair in the shape of Stuart ‘Louie’ Hall.

Louie donned the ‘Street kit and took to the field once more last Saturday as part of the ‘Super Saturday’ Faz Fest, playing for the 3rds in their victory over Leamington RFC 2nds in a Warwickshire 1 league match His performance showed that there is no need to ‘teach an old dog new tricks,’ especially when the old tricks still work so well! His try may not have had the crowds roaring as they used to at Coundon Rd but it may well have caught Coach Tom Hoines’ eye, especially considering the current first XV selection worries.

So will there be a surprise inclusion in this week’s team for the league fixture against Newport? Most people will give a resounding ‘No’, but there is potential for such an occasion.

Just a few seasons ago, when Louie was coaching, Broadstreet progressed through the ‘National Cup’ competition and were drawn against Tynedale RFC away. An injury in warm-up meant that ‘Street were down a substitute for the match, so Louie stepped in to fill the bench as a ‘just in case.’ With Broadstreet making an excellent showing of themselves against stronger opposition the injuries began to take their toll and with a good portion of the 2nd half left ‘just in case’ became ‘Louie, you’re on’. Needless to say the side wasn’t diminished by the substitution despite Broadstreet still leaving National 1’s Tynedale without a win.

So, if he can still do it against Tynedale….maybe, just maybe?.............
