Sponsors Scheme proving a Tri-umph
Broadstreet’s player/coach Ed Simkiss and centre Andrew Skene have proved too much of a temptation for Tri Distribution Ltd and, rather than decide between the pair, the company has snapped up both the players in the club’s ‘Player Sponsorship scheme’.
Andrew Skene is a product of the club’s M + J’s section and has been playing for the senior sides for the last 12 years. After a large period of time playing in the outside backs at fullback or on the wing, Skene now plies his trade as a tough tackling, hard running inside centre. He follows in the footsteps of his father (current Club Chairman) and his elder brother (former Club Captain), who also played for the 1st team and I am sure he will continue to be a valuable member of Broadstreet RFC in years to come.
After representing the Midlands U16’s at hooker (in 1975) and representing the county in the backrow in recent seasons, Simkiss is now a mainstay in the engine room at 2nd row. The player rejoined the club as coach after brief stints at a couple of National League clubs and, since his return, Broadstreet has arguably experienced its most successful period on the playing field. The consistent retention of the Warwickshire Cup, coupled with a number of promotions saw Broadstreet competing in National 2 North where they recorded a number of impressive wins encapsulates an era which the club and Ed will always be proud of.
