OLs To Repeat Last 2 Years’ Successful Fundraising Events
The Old Leamingtonians RFC will host the ‘Rugby for Heroes’ Festival for the third year running on 14th & 15th May 2011 and we are aiming to make it a wonderful weekend of Sport, Music and Fun for all the family. All profits generated from the Festival will be donated to ‘Help for Heroes’ – www.helpforheroes.org.uk.
In the last two years, OLRFC has raised over £4000 for Help for Heroes and other Armed Forces Charities at this Festival.
This year we are proud to welcome back as our rugby playing guest, Help for Heroes Patron, writer, explorer, TV presenter and motivational speaker Monty Halls! Monty is a former Royal Marines officer and since leaving the services in 1996 he has worked in some of the most demanding environments on earth, won Channel Four’s ‘Superhuman’, and presented series and documentaries for the Discovery Channel, The National Geographic Channel, BBC1, BBC2, Channel 4, and the History Channel. ‘Monty Halls’ Great Irish Escape’ (the third in the BBC series) is due to be shown in Spring 2011.
The amazing PWRR ‘Tigers’ parachute display team will be dropping in, on both Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers are firmly established as one of the top parachute display teams within the UK and are the flagship team from the Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment. The 2010 festival saw them drop in on Saturday despite the very difficult conditions - they are not to be missed.
On Saturday 14th May there will be Men’s’ and Ladies 10s Rugby tournaments, including guest appearances by Armed Forces and Touring sides. A short Remembrance service will be led by the Warwick Branch of the Royal British Legion
We will also be hosting;
* A Mini Rugby festival
* U15s and U16s Rugby Exhibition matches on Saturday 14th/Sunday 15th May
* A Girls Tag Rugby Tournament on Sunday 15th May
* A Senior Rugby Invitational 15 a side exhibition match on Sunday 15th May
There will also be Charity and Rugby Apparel Stalls, a beer tent, a fantastic festival campsite, lots of attractions, a buzzing marquee and in the evening some brilliant live music including The Kel Elliott Duo , rock cover band Whytehouse and The Sambassadors of Groove! We are also negotiating for discounted accommodation to be available for out of town attendees at a local hotel in Leamington Spa – watch this space!.
Would you like to have a go at Archery? The Royal Leamington Spa Archery Society has agreed to run an "Archery Have a Go" session on Saturday, 14th May 2011. Come and join the fun and shoot a few arrows!
