Street travel to Shropshire to face Newport RUFC, the Seconds have a weekend off, the Beavers entertain Leamington RFC, the Badgers are hoping to come out of hibernation with a pool match and the Colts journey to Dudley Kingswinford RFC.

newport_salop_rugby_football_club_logo Broadstreet First Team make the long journey to the Old Showground, Forton Road headquarters of Newport (Salop) RUFC for this rearranged National League 3 Midlands fixture with a 2:15pm kick-off.  Not that Newport, often called ‘The Fishes’, are the most distant of our opponents, but because it always seems to be such a long trek back - we’ve yet to win there.
In the 2005/6 campaign, when the Street had a solitary season in Midlands Two West (Level Six), we lost just one of our 22 games. Yes, at Forton Road by a single point, in a 22-23 defeat. In the 2007/8 season we returned home with 8-31 loss - enough said. Even in our rampaging, Championship-winning 2008/9 season we could only manage a 27-27 draw there - this time we had much the better of proceedings, but self-destructed with some bizarre decision-making in the final minutes to allow the Fishes to level with the last kick of the game. Maybe it’s the Shropshire air or the Curgenven brothers - James and Matt, or Newport’s short & sloped pitch, but let’s hope that the Street can find the right answer this Saturday.
The Fishes are having a pretty good season so far, with seven home wins at Forton Road, punctuated by reverses against Longton RFC and Malvern RFC - both of which the Street have also struggled against in this campaign.  Away performances have not been Newport's strongest suite, that is until last Saturday's very impressive win at South Leicester RFC.  The majority of the Fishes tries so far have come from the Backs with Wideman Richard Evans and Full Back Toby Mann registering eight and six tries respectively.  The Back Row’s try-scoring exploits compare well with the best in the league and Number 8 Christopher Taylor has weighed in with six touchdowns.  Kicking Scrum Half Jamie Simpson has notched up 110 points to date.  Comments from other websites suggest that the Fishes are particularly strong at Centre and in the Back Row, with Openside Flanker Joe Carpenter being lightning-quick at the breakdown.
