Warwickshire Colts Rugby Game On A Knifes Edge
On a cold wet day with only 5 points between the two teams after two previous meetings this Warwickshire Colts Cup rugby game was always going to be on a knife edge.
With the third team game called off at 1:15pm and the firsts away a sizeable crowd saw Street Colts kick off with the wind. The ensuing 15 minutes was nip and tuck between both teams forwards striving for the upper hand. Both teams provided quick ball to their backs which went unused because of handling errors and poor decision making which kept the game ticking over with no one in control.
The Street backs then put together a string of passes that took them wide and put pressure on Southam which resulted in a penalty being awarded which was duly dispatched.

Southam then committed another offence after the kick off which unfortunately saw them reduced to 14 men for the last 10 mins of the first half.
The loss of a player galvanized Southam and they resisted the pressure and mounted an attack of several phases which saw the Street Discipline crumble and give away a penalty which Southam converted to draw the game level again.

The second half saw the Street make forced changes after a clash of heads at the end of the first half which changed the scrummaging and line out structure which the Street had not dominated. With renewed vigour and a re affirmation of the game plan the game recommenced with the Street beginning the sharper of the two sides. With some straight line running meters were gained and structured attack created an overlap which with better passing came wide for Marc Brittan to run in.

With the conversion narrowly missed Southam rolled up their sleeves and came back firing on all cylinders. some poor tackling by the Street in the loose and some positive straight line running by Southam saw them dominate territory, ball possession and put the Street under immediate pressure. Inevitably Southam crossed the line to draw level then missing the conversion which would have put them in front for the first time.

With the supporters wondering if the game would end in stalemate again and what would be the deciding factor play resumed. Southam could now smell victory and upped their game immediately Street were under pressure and once again some poor tackling allowed Southam straight into their '22'.with the referee playing advantage from a couple of penalties Southam pressed on the street 5 metre line which eventually saw them go over the white wash again but only to be held up.
A fortunate Street won the scrum and with some unorthodox clearance of their lines 'got out of jail' this galvanized the Street who responded with some of their own Straight line running which ended in a penalty award in the Southam half on the 15 metre line which was converted.
