Broadstreet RFC First Team travel to Second Drove, Fengate, for a twice re-arranged National League 3 Midlands fixture against Peterborough RUFC with a 2:15 pm kick-off. This game was originally scheduled as a home game for the Street on 4th December 2010, but the whole league programme was decimated then by plunging temperatures. That day's programme was re-scheduled en bloc to 26th February 2011, but Broadstreet's Ivor Preece Field Rugby Ground is in use for the Annual Daily Mail RBS Schools Competition for the whole weekend. Peterborough RUFC have kindly agreed to switch this match to their ground with the 9th April return now to be played in Coventry. We are very grateful to them, as we are aware that this causes major disruption to their events programme.
Peterborough RUFC have had a hard time of it this season, but they had a very respectable result at Newport (Salop) RUFC last weekend losing just 20-26. Peterborough were in fact leading 20-17 going into the fourth quarter, but fell behind in the last few minutes to two late Newport RUFC penalties, but gained a losing bonus point in the process - something the Street have singularly failed to do all season. Street are the only team in the league without a losing bonus point. Peterborough lie fourth from bottom in the league table, but will have taken great heart from their performance at Newport RUFC.
Wideman Arturas Balcionas is Peterborough's top try scorer with seven touchdowns and kicking Fly Half Duncan Low has scored 93 points to date. Peterborough will be hoping to kick-on from their Newport performance to move away from the drop zone. Any side including Jon Phillips and Pete Brudnell will always have a good chance, so the Street will need to be at their best to return with anything from Fortress Fengate. Interestingly, after this Saturday's match, Peterborough will find themselves having played twelve home games so far, but only seven away in this topsy turvey weather-disrupted season. Street on the otherhand, will be in the middle of a run of six consecutive away games - not ideal, but circumstances dictate.
