| Of the two sides that seemed to be heading for mid-table mediocrity in that sequence, Malvern RFC had never beaten the Street and desperately wanted to do so, the other was Newport when Street played at Forton Road in mid-February - the start of the six match away run. Street came back from Shropshire that day with their first ever victory over the Fishes in Newport, mainly due to a storming first half performance to lead 26-0 at half time. Since then, injuries and availability issues in the Backs have resulted in the blooding of a number of talented Colts and promising second-teamers. All have stepped up to the plate, but not in ideal circumstances. The chopping and changing has resulted in a string of ineffective displays through a lack of familiarity and cohesion, but these lads need to gain first team match experience somehow. |
| Street have dropped out of the running for a play-off spot, having now sunk to a mid-table position, but will be hoping to field a more settled side that begins to gel. The Fishes, along with Broadstreet, find themselves in a group of five teams behind the promotion-chasing pack, where just five points separate fifth from ninth in the league table. Two notable away wins, at South Leicester RFC and at Luton RFC clearly demonstrate that Newport have it in them to turn it on, but they will be smarting from their defeat at Glasshouse Lane last Saturday that provides Kenilworth RFC with an unexpected lifeline. |
