Broadstreet RFC Colts Fail To Measure Up Against Kenilworth RFC.
Broadstreet RFC Colts play second fiddle to Kenilworth RFC Colts.
On a grey day but with increased expectancy due to the availablity of a much larger than usual squad to select from, Broadstreet RFC Colts faced Kenilworth RFC Colts who are currently placed second in the merit table. Observation of Street's warm up at the Ivor Preece Field Rugby Ground gave clear signs of what was to come, with a disjointed session featuring a lack of discipline and concentration. With a substantially altered team from the previous week, including many positional changes, the Colts began the game far from focused. The Ks capitalised immediately and some unfortunate decision-making by Street allowed Kenilworth an early opportunity which was taken well. Under the posts, Street regrouped and came out more positive and put together some better passages of play. Handling errors and indiscipline at the breakdown were Street's undoing for Kenilworth's second try.
With the game slipping away, Street made an attempt to pull back the deficit only to be undone by a fast flowing try with the ball being utilised well by the Ks' back line. With the the score at 0-17, forced changes in the pack and the return of the team captain, Broadstreet dug-in, kept the ball tight and marched up the field to be rewarded with an unconverted try. From the kick-off Street's Colts displayed more self-belief and with resolve put together some incisive attacking moves only to fall short of the line due to handling errors.
Half Time 0-17.
Beginning the second half from a position of 5-17 down was always going require a monumental performance to turn the game around. Kenilworth came out with renewed vigor and the Street's defence held well for fifteen minutes, The Ks' disciplined play then paid off as they ran in another well crafted try. With the game drifting away, wholesale changes were made to allow U17s and the remainder of the bench to give the coaches some selection choices for the forthcoming Semi-Final Cup game.
