It is with great sadness that we have to report the loss of Dick Clarke earlier today (24th August 2011).

Wreath

Dick, aged about 77 years, passed away following a massive stroke a few days ago.  He leaves wife Joan and son Mathew to whom we send our condolences.

Having grown up in the Red Lane area of Coventry Dick was a pupil of Broad Street School where he learned to play rugby football.  Upon leaving school, Dick continued to play rugby for Broadstreet Old Boys RFC until the late 1960s, only interrupted by his National Service stationed in Korea with the 1st Battalion The Warwickshire Regiment.  Dick played at Full Back for Broadstreet 1st & 2nd XV’s over the years with a solid defence giving 100% commitment and would reputably “tackle a tank” if necessary.  The last time we saw him don his boots was at a Fathers and Sons rugby festival at the Brandon Road club in c.1990 when he played alongside Matt.  As a person Dick was a quiet, thoughtful rugby gentleman, but also enjoyed himself and was a good rugby tourist.

A service will be held on Friday 9th September at noon at the Risen Christ Church in Wyken Croft, followed by the funeral at Canley Crematorium, then back to Pinley Rugby Club.

May he rest in peace.
