Warwickshire Junior Whistlers Course in the Autumn Half-term Break for 14 to 18 year-olds to train to become match officials.

RefereeExciting new venture to be launched, which is designed to boost the number of young people officiating in school and community rugby.  During the half-term break the Warwickshire Society of Referees will be running the Warwickshire Junior Whistlers initiative, at which young people between the ages of 14 and 18 will be trained as match officials.

RefereeHaving young referees on board will free-up coaches and teachers to coach their teams, confident in the knowledge that the young official has been fully trained to handle Rugby matches with safety as the primary concern.  The courses will aid them in acquiring a wide range of skills including man management, effective communications and confidence building, all of which will be invaluable in later life.

Funding has been secured from the RFU, so the young people will only have to contribute £12 50 towards their course materials.  Two courses are available: -
1) Entry Level Referee Award, over the three mornings of October 25, 26 and 27, which will allow them to referee up to junior rugby level and set them onwards into the senior game
2) RFU Mini-Midi course to be held all day on October 26.
Both courses will be held at Old Coventrians RFC in Tile Hill Lane starting at 9:00 am. The ELRA course ends as 1:00 pm on each of the three days and the mini/midi course at 4:30 pm.
Assessment by qualified referees and further referee development will be ongoing to ensure that each delegate achieves a high standard of skill and goes on to reach his/her full refereeing potential.

Applications should be submitted to the course manager, Steve Davies who will invite you to a launch meeting in mid September to hear full details.  Steve can be contacted by e-mail to davies@9Roman.freeserve.co.uk  or by telephone on 07946731862  .
