choose-rugby-at-broadstreet-rfcThe RFU have recently published their Touchline magazine which is the official publication of the RFU. The RFU have recently replaced their 'Play and Play On' campaign to encourage people to keep playing rugby, to one co-ordinated to co-incide with the start of the rugby world cup.  The Choose Rugby initiative was developed following consultation with a number of rugby clubs and will be a long-term recruitment and retention programme building towards the 2015 Rugby World Cup, being held in England featuring games played in Coventry at the Ricoh arena. Broadstreet are hoping that international rugby sides will want to retun after hosting the USA and Canada prior to this years Churchill Cup.

Rugby World Cup

Internet search engines will be increasingly returning results for possible players wishing to choose rugby union, and where better to select to play rugby than down the road from where the historic story, some say myth began  We have been told so many times of a certain William Webb Ellis who picked up the ball and began to run with it.

The rugby world cup is even named after him, the William Webb Ellis Trophy is the most prestigious prize in international rugby, and is awarded to the winner of the Rugby World Cup. The cup is silver gilded in gold and has been presented to the winner of the world cup since the first competition in 1987. Previous winners of the trophy have included South Africa in 2007, England winning the trophy in 2003 from the boot of Fly half Johnny Wilkinson, Australia were the previous winners to that in 1999. Making them the first nation to win the tournement twice, a feat replicated by South Africa 4 years on.

Rugby Facilities

Broadstreet RFC run a very dynamic rugby club with some of the best facilities in the country. Mini rugby coaches are out in the community every Sunday morning during the season ably assisted by senior rugby players, allowing children and adults of all ages wishing to choose rugby here at the Ivor Preece Field in Coventry.
