One of only a handful of matches to survive the recent winter weather was watched by an expectant crowd starved of rugby for over a month. The visitors Hull Ionians taking the spoils with a hard fought win. Both teams looked a little rusty early on and mistakes and knock ons were a constant feature of the first 20 minutes. Ionians were the first on the score sheet when a well worked drive and break away down the centre of the field created space out wide for winger Oliver Marne to score in the corner unopposed after 11 minutes. Wright was unable to add the conversion. 0-5. They were then to increase their lead after 17 minutes with a penalty from full back Joe Wright to make the score 0-8. It took Broadstreet 29 minutes to get themselves into the game and when they finally put some possession together they were rewarded with a penalty. Dan Richards in impeccable form with the boot did not miss a kick all afternoon after his return from long term injury. With barely a minute left on the clock in the first half Hull Ionians were awarded a penalty which Wright gladly accepted to take them into a 3-11 lead at the break.

Broadstreet started the second half a little more positively and were able to add 3 points from the boot of Richards with only a minute gone. Ionians were to increase their lead when prop forward Adrian Longbourne wriggled his way over the line from a free kick close to the line. Wright saw his conversion sale past the front of the posts. 6-16. Street brought on Thatcher who was to have positive effect on the performance of the team. Straight away short sniping breaks and quick ball put Ionians under pressure and they conceded a penalty. Richards slotted over on 59 minutes to narrow the gap to 9-16. This pressure continued and Street added a further penalty on 63 minutes to take the score within 4 points. With only 5 minutes left on the clock, Street piled forward but for a mistake on the
