Depleted ‘Street Seconds Succumb to Strong ‘Scouts

Due to early season absenteeism, Manager Paul Harcourt and assistant Bill Busby took only seventeen players away to take on a strong Midlands Two outfit, Northampton Old Scout’s First XV, which saw centre Lynsey Bishop and flanker Colum Berry, both unselfishly slotting in at full back and second row, respectively.

To their great credit the ‘Street lads pushed a well-drilled team all the way, despite playing with fourteen players twice - due to a yellow card and injuries to backs Adam Watts, Cam Pimlow and number eight Stewart Hendry, to go down by only 31 – 19.

Broadstreet had all the early play but it was the hosts who took the lead with a penalty on 17 minutes, followed by another breakout of defence for a converted try, taking the home score to 10-0 after 25 minutes. Number 8 Stewart Hendry scored an unconverted try 7 minutes later and Old Scouts slotted a second penalty to take them to 13 – 5 at the break.

‘Street pressurised again from the kick off and this time registered a seven pointer twelve minutes into the half, through scrum half Conor McFeeley’s try and a Cam Pimlow’s conversion, to trail by one point.

Winger, Ashley Lightowler picked up a yellow card in the 73rd minute and Old Scouts capitalised with a dropped goal and a penalty, before rapping the game up with two well taken tries to take the score to 31-12 well into the fourth quarter.

Down to 13 players at one stage late in the game, through the injuries to Watts, Pimlow and Hendry; which saw the introduction of replacements Andy Hirons and Dave Roff, ‘Street, nevertheless, had the last word with an injury time try by hooker Dave Irwin, converted by Dan Phillips.

Old Scouts paid due credit to the strength of ‘Street’s play, with great defence by the home side paying them dividends in an eventual comfortable home win.

Team: Lindsey Bishop, Ashley Lightowler, Dan Kane, Adam Watts, Dan Philips, Cam Pimlow, Conor McFeeley, Ian Williams, Dave Irwin, Tom Greevy, Dan Havart, Colum Berry, Dean Watts, Chris Zutic, Stewart Hendry.

Replacements: Andy Hirons, Dave Roff.
