Broadstreet Vs. Pinley 11th November 12
What a beautiful day for remembrance Sunday, the sun was shining and it was a fresh day. All of the Broadstreet teams showed their total respect by taking part in the 2 minute silence for Remembrance Day. Then it was full steam ahead for 2 rugby matches against Pinley RFC.
The hype was built up prior to the match as this was our first ever fixture against Pinley, with the last planned meeting washed out at last year’s Keresley festival. The street U10's rugby followed the weather with a very bright start; the first game took off with an explosive pace with Nathan E managing to push across the line to score the first try of the match (Well done Nath on your first ever Broadstreet try!!!), this was followed quickly with tries from David, Max J and Ben I.
The match was already looking very one sided in the first 5 mins with all the players putting in tremendous tackles and creating space to receive the ball at every opportunity. Due to the nature of the game we made some very early changes to level things up. With the balance of the teams changing, Pinley scored 3 tries later in the second half; Pinley’s no7 player wouldn’t look out of place in an u14’s side (a big strong lad). Street defended stubbornly but his size enabled him to make a few breaks through the well organised Street defence. However this was a small consolation for Pinley as Street were already a country mile ahead winning the game 60 -15 (scorers;- Nathan, Max J (4), David (3), Ben I (4).
Carl offered the whistle over to Pinley to referee the second game but the Pinley coach was happy for Carl to officiate over the next match.
Pinley started the game well and at half time were winning 10-5, but they just couldn’t cope with the pace and quality of the Street U10’s who simply stepped up a few gears and took command of the second half scoring 6 tries, the first Try from Jack G’s surprising sprint the length of the pitch to level things up,
Max and David made storming runs up the pitch taking on the whole Pinley team, but for me it was the support play from JP who tracked and waited for the offload on both occasion to run in 2 tries. This was the point when street were in the ascendancy taking and holding the lead which they never yielded, super attacking play!!
Pinley player no7 “The Tank”, crossed over on a couple of times but this only finely tuned Broadstreet’s resolution. When Tank scored Ben I took the ball and scored immediately on the restart.
Some further super attacking from Ben I finished Pinley’s hopes when he scored another try. Final score 35 – 20 to Broadstreet (Scorers; - Jack G, Ben I (2), David (2), JP (2)
A big thank you to all of the Broadstreet parents and supporters providing support to both teams applauding all aspects of the games, shame it wasn’t reciprocated.
Another successful Sunday of Rugby. Well done to everyone and again there were comments made from the opposition about how well drilled and disciplined the team is, Give yourselves a pat on the back you’ve earned it!!!!
