A bumper crowd in the coolest of conditions witnessed a match played by the closest of rivals. The visitors from Webb Ellis Road were victor’s condemning Broadstreet to their ninth loss on the trot.
With only a minute on the clock a transgression in the 22 let Lions full back Lloyd Warner slot over an easy penalty. 0-3.This lead was extended when Warner was able to add another 3 points after 6 minutes giving the visitors a 6-point cushion. Street battled hard and but lacked confidence in the final quarter. Street did see a reward for their efforts when on 14 minute’s fly half Dan Richards put over a penalty from close quarters. Lions increased their lead after prop Tom Williams found himself in space to cross over the line after a well worked bout of pressure. Warner was unable to add the conversion.3-11. Street were able to add two further penalties from the boot of Richards to narrow the gap but on the stroke of half time Warner added 3 points to take the visitors into a 9-14 lead at half time.
Lions increased their lead early in the second half as Warner added a further 3 points.9-17. This sparked street into the best period of the game. With some excellent rolling mauls and close in lineouts. Broadstreet’s man of the match Nigel Mukarati came up with the ball from a close in maul. Richards was unable to add the conversion.14-17. Street had the chance to level the scores when Richards had an opportunity to put over a penalty after 22 minutes, sadly he saw the ball sail past the left upright. Lions were not to be out done and a couple of well worked drop goals from Warner then Andrews increased the visitors lead to 14-23. Lions put the game beyond streets reach when winger impressive wing Tom Harris crossed the line unopposed after 37 minutes. Warner saw the conversion sail wide. Street did rally and spent the final few minutes trying to reduce the deficit but to no avail. Referee Campbell blew the final whistle.
