Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England's overthrow.
The annual event is held to recognise the attempted gunpowder plot of which Guy Fawkes and Robert Catesby were attempting to kill the current King James I.Guy Fawkes became synonymous with the Gunpowder Plot, which has been commemorated in England since 5 November 1605, we haven't been celebrating for that long here at Broadstreet, just a few decades rather than centuries. November the 5th became a day of celebration and the parliament of the day designated each 5 November as a day of thanksgiving for "the joyful day of deliverance", and remained in force until 1859. 5th November has at different times been called Guy Fawkes Night, Guy Fawkes Day and Bonfire Night, although the present day sees more Fireworks Displays than bonfires.
The fireworks display beginning at 08:00pm
The Club run a strict 'No Sparklers' policy as part of the rugby clubs health and safety policy to prevent injuries to visitors at our Fireworks displays.
By god's mercy he was catch'd
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring.
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.
Entry to the event costs £5 per adult, £2 per child and £10 for a family of four. The club opens at midday and people are welcome to join us in the clubhouse for a drink or food prior to the fireworks display kicking off at 07:30pm..
And what shall we do with him?
