BROADSTREET V BEDFORD ATHLETIC  9TH SEPTEMBER

MIDLANDS ONE.

Broadstreet, back in Midlands One, played their first league match against Bedford Athletic, who just missed promotion into the National leagues last season.

Bedford’s Elphick missed a penalty five minutes into the game.  Broadstreet, playing some excellent rugby, then took on the heavier Bedford pack, to steal the ball in their own 22, and in a move involving some great passing, went down the pitch for Simon Morris to touch down.  Chris Brown converted, to bring the score to 7 – 0 on fifteen minutes.

Three minutes later, Jordan Simpson went over from a flowing move from midfield, involving four players.  Brown converted again making the score 14 – 0.

Bedford’s Wills was yellow carded for foul play on thirty seven minutes.

Half time score, 14 – 0.

‘Street’s scrum half Thatcher, was replaced at half time, injured, with Simpson taking up his position.  Five minutes into the second half. ‘Street’s rolling maul went sixty metres, before Bedford could bring it to a halt with a penalty.  Andrew Skene missed the kick, but made amends four minutes later from thirty metres, to bring the score to 17-0.

Bedford then started to get their act together, with Aldwinckle going over on twenty minutes and converting.  Score 17-7.

‘Street’s Morris was sin-binned on twenty five minutes.  Bedford took advantage with replacement Vilgeon touching down on the half hour.

The game ended with ‘Street pressing in Bedford’s twenty-two.

Final Score  Broadstreet 17   Bedford Athletic 12.
