MIDLANDS ONE. 15TH SEPTEMBER, 2007.

BROADSTREET V LONGTON.

Broadstreet could and should have won this match by a landslide.  They broke through Longton’s defence at will during the first half, only for the final balls to go astray.  Played in and on ideal conditions, ‘Street forced Longton on to the back foot from the whistle, forcing them to concede penalties, for the golden boot of Danny Richards to kick fourteen points from all positions before being injured at half time.

Richards scored penalties on four and nine minutes from Longton’s foul play, and hit the bar with a drop kick which bounced back out.  ‘Street then scored from a superb passing move down the wing.which resulted in scrum-half Thatcher going over from mixed play on twelve minutes.  This was converted, and with another penalty by Richards on fifteen minutes, brought the score to 16-0.    Longton then began to get their act together, keeping the ball with their forwards.  Their big, well drilled pack scored from a rolling maul that went thirty metres, for scrum-half James Askew to score.  This was converted by full-back P. Green.   Score after twenty ones minutes 16-7.  Longton missed a penalty on twenty five minutes.  Richards then kicked a penalty on forty two minutes.

Half time score  19-7.

In the second half, Longton closed the game down keeping the ball with their forwards and putting early pressure on ‘Street, but with no result.  Broadstreet, despite being camped out on Longton’s line for long periods, could make no headway.  This resulted in a dour second half, the only score being ‘Street’s M. Marren who kicked a penalty sixteen minutes in to the half.

Final score 22-7.
