David Duckham

David John Duckham was born in Coventry and educated at King Henry VIII School, David played for Old Coventrians RFC before joining Coventry FC (RU) in 1967. He made his international debut against Ireland in 1969 and quickly established himself as one of England’s best centres, playing alongside John Spencer. His game was marked by pace, swerves, David_Duckhamsidesteps and an ability to wrong-foot his opponents. He played for England until 1976 winning 36 caps. David was part of the successful British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand in 1976 and encouraged by coach Carwyn James, he found an attacking freedom that was lacking in the English game. He scored 11 tries in his 16 games on tour. He was the only English back in the 1973 Barbarians side that beat the All Blacks 23-11, after which he was given the nickname ‘Dai’ by the Welsh fans because he played like one of their own. David was awarded the MBE for his services to rugby football in 1977 and is currently President of the Wooden Spoon Society.

Colts Recession Over!

Rapid progress on the Youth Scene....

UNDER 19 GROUP -

After the collapse of last year’s Colts group, (Under 19) this season’s Youth Rugby Development initiative has ensured that ‘Street start the 2009-2010 season with a full Under 19 squad and programme. Players who departed last season have re-joined a core of colts, which played out the season in the 3rd XV, together with newcomers, to provide new colts coach, Ian Holmes, with a talented group of players to work with.

Kenilworth 2nd Xv Cry Off

Kenilworth 2nd Xv Cry Off

It was very unfortunate that Kenilworth RFC 2nd XV were unable to raise a second team side and it took a phone call at 19:30 on a Friday evening in which Kenilworth Rugby Club informed Broadstreet that they would be unable to honour the planned Warwickshire 2nd team league fixture planned for Saturday 26th September. This left the Broadstreet 2nd team squad in the lurch and unable to get themselves a fixture. Next week the 2nd XV face Rugby Lions Extras, lets hope that Rugby fare better in raising the 15 players required to play The Street !!.
