Presidents Welcome Kenilworth RFC 21-02-09

I would like to congratulate the players, coaches and management team on last week’s fantastic performance away at Luctonians RFC, where we ran out 14-13 winners in a clean hard fought, nail biting game – a result which put Broadstreet at the top of Midlands 1 for the first time this season, with a tally of 23 points from fifteen matches, and a game in hand on Luctonians RFC (in second place on 22 points) and Kenilworth  ( In third place on 21 points). There is a long way to go to the end of the League’ season, with seven games remaining for the ‘Street’, and there is certainly no room for complacency as we continue the push for promotion to the National Leagues next season.

Today we welcome the players , officials and supporters of our near neighbours Kenilworth to the Ivor Preece Field, and judging by recent results for both sides, as well as previous fixtures between the two clubs, this may be one of the toughest of our remaining matches. Kenilworth defeated Newport (Salop) 15-0 in last Saturday’s home fixture. I’m sure we will see another hard fought and entertaining game today.

My thanks to Truck Sales 2000 for sponsoring today’s game, in conjunction with Anthony Evans, using the John Potter suite. My thanks also to the Broadstreet Executive Club for sponsoring today’s match ball.  The 6th month draw for prizes of £1,000, £500 and £250 for eligible Executive Club members and thank you all for your continued support.

Next Saturday and Sunday 28th February and 1st March, we host the Daily Mail schools competition  which is a great honour for the club. The workload for the event is enormous and I encourage every member of the Club to offer their services for a couple of hours to ensure the events success. Please contact Peter Garlick to confirm your availability.

Please support the match day officials, enjoy the game and enjoy the’Street’s’ hospitality.

Don Branston
Club President.
