Broadstreet Classics XV 81
Old Leamingtonians 3rd XV 12
Friendly Match
Young Guns Run Riot
Broadstreet needed no luck in scoring 13 tries with 13 men, against a spirited Old Leams who continued to play from start to finish. Old Leams travelled to the Ivor Preece Field with 13 men after losing 4 players to their 2nd XV, the Classics evened up the numbers to make it 14 each. However, despite passive scrums, shortly into the game the Classics lost the services of a back row Neil to injury. Debut back row Jake opened the scoring with a try, but it was young wingers Sam Cullinane and Mark Britton who continued their try scoring form to steal the show with 4 each. The Classics boasted an impressive back line to feed the young wingers with a mountain of former 1st team experience in Skene, Warne, Harradine, Shepherd and Phillips. John Warne and Ben Shepherd helping themselves to a try each, Bill Vennard and hard hitting Nathan Rooney also crossed for tries. Si Skene hitting 7 conversions and Ben shepherd 1, Old Leams managed a try in each half to keep the game interesting. Special thanks to Dave Cummins for refereeing the match after a no show, Man of the Match this week going to Sam Cullinane with an excellent 4 try game at wing and back row.
