Come and join Broadstreet RFC at our SUNDAY morning training sessions from 10:30am until 12:00 noon from the beginning of September to the end of April.
Our Mini Rugby section introduces rugby to children from the age of 6 years old. We aim to develop the skills and knowledge required to play full 15 a side rugby at Under 13 years old age group in the Junior Rugby age groups.
Each stage has its own rules distinguishing it from the adult game of rugby. The stages are structured to introduce different aspects of the game matched to the development ability of the childs age group. The emphasis being to develop these skills all within the 'Spirit Of Rugby' through purposeful but enjoyable development. Matches, tournaments and festivals to test these skills are limited for the younger age groups.
Mini rugby is a form of rugby union designed to introduce the sport to children. It uses a smaller ball and pitch than standard rugby, and has eight to ten players a side.
Mini rugby was Invented in England in 1970, mini rugby was soon taken up by both the English Rugby Football Union (RFU) and the Welsh Rugby Union.
The original game had four backs, and five forwards. There was no pushing in the scrum, which was made up of - two props, a hooker and a second row of two locks.
The International Rugby Board does not directly govern very junior levels of rugby but rather leaves local bodies to do things as they see fit. Consequently different countries have different junior versions of rugby designed to appeal to, and be safe for, younger children.
The Under 7 and Under 8 age groups both play Mini Tag Rugby to the same rules except that Under 8s can only be tagged a maximum number of times.
The Under 9 and Under 10 age grades both play Mini Rugby and play to the new RFU shaping the game pilot regulations. For more information on the current revision please click the link
