Broadstreet 19 (Try: Shepherd. Con: Richards. Pens: Richards 4.).
Dudley Kingswinford 14 (Try: Condliffe. Pens: Rimene 3.)
A fine bright day, and Dudley, back from the National leagues, were a hard nut to crack. The game was disrupted, particularly in the first half, by the continuous use of the whistle. It was blown some thirty two times for penalties, which had the effect of killing the flow of the game.
Broadstreet's new signing, Dan Richards, had his league debut at fly-half, kicking four penalties and a conversion to add fourteen points to the score.
Kings started well with a three minute Rimene penalty. 'Street's Richards missed one on fifteen minutes, but then scored three minutes later. Score 3 - 3.
'Street were having trouble controlling King's bigger and more aggressive pack which lead to a penalty. This allowed Condliffe, their front row, to get over the line. Score 3 - 8 after 21 minutes. Four minutes later, 'Street were again penalised, with Rimene kicking the three points. 3 - 11. Richards returned the compliment on twenty eight minutes, after a high tackle, score 6 - 11, but missed the next two. One of which hit the woodwork and rebounded. Richards then went off with a blood injury. King's full back, Rimene, kicked yet another penalty five minutes into extra time, to bring the half time score to 6-14.
As in previous games, 'Street came out in the second half a different side. They took the game to Kings, driving them into their own half, with the forwards showing their mettle with quick decisive ball. King's McEwan was yellow carded on seven minutes, with 'Street then taking the advantage five minutes later, with a text book try from Ben Shepherd. He started and finished the move which involved nearly all the backs. Richards kicked the conversion from an acute angle to bring the score to 13-14. 'Street's Tatlow was yellow carded two minutes later on the half hour. Richards had a further penalty, with Kings missing two minutes later. Score after thirty six minutes, 16-14. For long periods, 'Street then pressurised Kings into their own 22 metres, with them defending well, resulting in Asipto being yellow carded on forty two minutes. Richards kicked the penalty from under the posts, and with 'Street camped on King's line, the game ended at 19-14, after eleven minutes extra time.
