Broadstreet RFC 48 - 19 Chester RFC

A glorious day for scintillating rugby played on a surface which would not have looked out of place at the crucible theatre. A game played in good open style by both teams saw the street go ahead on 6 minutes when winger Andy Mcgrory rounded his man to touch down in the far right corner. Unfortunately Dan Richards did not have his kicking boots with him today and failed with the conversion. Street were now piling on the pressure and were well rewarded when industrious scrum half and man of the match Luke Talbot snook through a gap close to the posts to be converted by Dan Richards. The pressure continued and the street backs starting to take control of the game saw the best move of the game result in Andy Mcgrorys second try scored out wide. The visitors from Cheshire never gave up the fight but struggled to keep up with the opening pace of the game. On 20 minutes open side Simon Morris crashed over from close quarters near the posts for Dan Richards to convert. The remaining 20 minutes of the first half were played very much in the centre of the field and Chester started to bring themselves back into the game and were unlucky not to score when the ball was dropped close to the line.

Half Time 24-0

With only 1 minute on the clock of the second half the Street threw their first of 2 interception passes and the visitors were rewarded with their opening score of the game when Jack Bromley sprinted a full 50 meters to touchdown. This was then converted by fly half Tom Foden. From the restart street worked their way up the pith to put pressure on Chester’s line when the opposition captain Sean Green was sin binned on 45 minutes for coming in from the side. The resulting penalty saw second row Tom Greevy rewarded his efforts. Street failed again with the conversion. Chester now gaining some momentum worked the ball down to the street line and came very close to scoring only for street captain Eddie Simkiss to be penalized and sent to the bin for coming in from the side. Chester were unable to break the street defence from the penalty and found themselves under pressure from a street breakout on 58 minutes when Craig Ross rounded his man to score the sixth try of the game. Again this was wide out and the unlucky Richards failed to convert. Streets Morris was sent to the bin on 68 minutes for another incident at the base of the ruck. Street now down to 13 men brought Hewitt on at hooker to replace Southwell. This did not deter the street forwards who worked some nice inter passing to a good position in the opposition 22 and the pass from Talbot went into the air and how full back Wayne Lester got that high to catch it and deliver a sublime pass to outside centre Alex Crofts to score under the posts with an acrobatic dive will remain a mystery for many years to come. Converted by Richards. Street then gave their second interception pass of the Game and Chester’s lively outside half caught the ball and scooted in from 60 meters to go under the posts converted by himself on 76 minutes. From the resulting kick off street all but finished the game off when Gary Challis on for the injured Thatcher hacked through to touchdown on 78 minutes. An excellent conversion for Richards. On the stroke of full time Chester scrambled over in the far corner and no 8 Ross White came up with the ball.
