Stuttering Street Grind Out Victory
ON A day when they struggled to find their usual free-flowing form, Broadstreet ground out a victory that could prove valuable when promotion issues are resolved at the end of the season.
They pounded the home defence for much of the first half but managed only a solitary Dan Richards penalty that was balanced by Tim Jones when the Northants men made a rare incursion into Street territory.
The visitors stepped up the pace in the second period, however, Perry Purge proving particularly penetrating, and made the decisive breakthrough in the 47th minute when Broadstreet finished off a fine counter attack, which saw some slick handling to take the 'Street' from their own half with Nick Thatcher bursting over for a try converted by Richards.
The rest of the match was largely confined to the midfield slog, but Richards gave Street some breathing space when he steered home another penalty just before the hour.
