Broadstreet crowned themselves champions of Midlands One division and gained the automatic promotion place into the National leagues with this comfortable win over their opponents.

Skipper Eddie Simkiss broke his try drought with 2 scores one in each half to give the leaders victory and take them on the way towards the title.

Played on a rock hard pitch the sort you would expect to find at the beginning of the season Broadstreet went ahead on 2 minutes with a penalty kick slotted over by Dan Richards. Not to be out done South Leicester retaliated with a bout of pressure from the kick off and were awarded a penalty on 5 minutes after a broadstreet player had drifted offside which kicker Mark Lord accepted with ease. The game started to lift pace with both sides having good passages of play. Mukarati and Morris were both outstanding in attack and defence with both turning over ball with ease at the breakdown. South Leicester were not over awed by the street pressure and several times in the half broke clear to see the final pass go astray or be smothered in the excellent cover defence. Dan Richards put the street in the lead with another penalty on 8 minutes. The first try of the game came on 19 minutes when Richards scythed through the defence from 20 meters to score just to the right of the posts being tackled on the line. He failed to convert his try. Street switched off and South picked up their game with various breaks up the centre of the field making considerable yards. Street were having to defend with all of their might and eventually ran out of numbers as openside Wes Cartwright scored out on the left after 38 minutes. Lord was unable to convert as the ball sailed past the front of the posts. Street went back on the attack from the restart and started to put some phases of play together for the first time in the game and were rewarded with a try on the stroke of half time by skipper Ed Simkiss.his first of the game and of the season. Richards missed the conversion. His kicking a little off after picking up an ankle injury when scoring his try earlier.

Half Time 08 - 11

Broadstreet started the second half in blistering fashion with a well worked try scored by Mukarati wide out on the left after some neat inter passing between several players. Richards was unable to add the two extra points from the conversion. The next try for the street was scored by winger James Hunt, who cut in from his right wing to leave a trail of 4 South players grasping at thin air as he went round behind the posts. Richards added the conversion but this was to be his last participation in the game as he limped off with the ankle injury he had picked up earlier in the game. Street brought on Wayne Lester and moved several players around with Garry Challis taking over the responsibility of kicking when he moved into fly half position. Street were now trying to move the ball at every opportunity. Challis was soon to get his first chance to increase the lead with a penalty from 30 meters, that he readily accepted taking the score to 31-8. Adam Watts left the field with a thumb injury. This enabled new signing Tom Grimes to come on for his debut at centre. Street were also able to replace the excellent Adam Freemantle for the last 10 minutes with Carl Southwell coming on to finish the game. Street wrapped things up on the stroke of full time with Ed Simkiss scoring his second try of the game. He went in unopposed out on the left. Challis was unable to slot over the conversion.

Street still have 2 home games left against Malvern and Hinckley to be played over the next two Saturdays.
