After the tough defeat against Luctonians, Broadstreet 2nds faced Birmingham & Solihull, a club more used to a rivalry with top city side Coventry Rugby rather than Broadstreet. With the 1st XV suffering a defeat against bottom of the table Luctonians, 2nd XV players Chris Idehen, George Walsh & Tim Douglas were drafted in to the 1st XV squad for their away trip to Sandal (Chris Idehen going on to claim MoM for the game). This meant that the team was devoid of the experience afforded to them last week by 1st XV squad players, but gave an opportunity to Broadstreet youngsters like Taylor Smith...
After two comfortable league wins against both Syston and Old Patesians ( Cheltenham ) in the previous two weeks, Broadstreet faced a test against one of the strongest sides in the league when Luctonians visited Ivor Preece Field. Despite the gathering momentum in the young side and with some welcome additions from the 1st XV squad to add much needed experience, the travelling side were always going to be one of the toughest games of the season: 1) George Walsh 2) Luke Truslove (M&J) 3) Kamrun Bains (M&J) 4) Connor Burnet (M&J) 5) Piotr Wisniewski 6) James Clifford 7) Sam McNulty 8) Chris Ide...
Street subdue Sandal to unexpectedly return from West Yorkshire with the spoils. Broadstreet travelled to Sandal, just south of Wakefield, for the latest round of National League Two North fixtures having had a torrid first half of the season and sitting at the foot of the table after exchanging places with Luctonians following last week’s home defeat to them. A number of changes were made to the team sheet and ‘Street were only able to field two pairs of brothers as opposed to the four pairs we had against Lucs. Sam Gibbons lost his place to Chris Idehen after the flanker’s hard work in the ...

Broadstreet 3rds took to the field on Saturday and provided an early firework display against a powerful Berkswell and Balsall 2nd XV. Broadstreet welcomed back several players that have been absent on World Cup duty (propping up the bars) as a number of regulars were promoted to the ‘Street’s 2nd team. Initially, there was a squabble over the number 10 jersey as a some of the older lags fancy themselves in that commanding position. As it was, ‘Greggs’ Skene won that battle, mainly by arriving early and bribing the Tinkerman – note to younger players: any denomination of notes accepted. B&B t...
In what was the worst conditions of the season so far, ‘Street managed to grind out a win against strong young opposition. Fielding a (mostly) young team themselves Street took some time to come to terms with the damp and the cold. Mark Foley made his debut for Street at 9 and was able to fire out some bullet passes from the base of the scrum, with luck next time we’ll be able to add some accuracy…. Dan Havart Street have prided themselves for the last few years (decades) on playing a fast intense game with lots of direct running and good interplay between backs and forwards. They are usually...
Syston 17 – 29 Broadstreet Broadstreet IIs have been playing catch up in the Midlands Reserve League 1 over the last fortnight in order to fulfil the games in hand that they had accumulated over the first 2 months of the season. Their game away at Syston is always a tough fixture and it was good to maintain a traditional match up whilst being in a strong league structure. The 2nd XV, who have had an average age of just 21 for the first 5 matches of the season, was bumped up to 23 for this game with the return of Harry Pendleton to the front row, 1st XV squad member Chris Idehen at Number 8, c...
