The thing is, will we be able to keep Danny out of O’Flaherty’s? Pete Branston, who has a fair bit of experience of the area, is setting out on the road to Perpignan on the Mediterranean coast and would like some senior players to accompany him. The plan is to fly to the south of France early in May 2015 for an extended weekend to include a Vets game, watch a Top 14 Perpignan match, share a few memories and perhaps have some beers too. Pete’s intention is to fly early doors on Saturday 2nd May 2015 from Stansted to Perpignan, stay in a coastal resort (Argeles-sur-Mer, probably) and experience...
So many good things to report - Tickling? Broadstreet travelled to the north of the county to take on a Spartans (Midlands) RFC – a side who have been on a roll so far this season, but now found themselves in a proper game. Danny ‘Tinkerman’ Rowan had seen his side rack up a mass of points in the previous two games and so naturally made a raft of changes. Flanker, Alex Beddows was dropped from the first team and told to concentrate on keeping doing the same things. Odd advice for someone you’ve just dropped perhaps, so he played at hooker. Andrew ‘Greggs’ Skene was the victim of a dodgy sausa...

Broadstreet welcomed the much-vaunted Newbold on Avon RFC 3rds (2nds) to the Ivor Preece Field Rugby Ground for the first time this season for what is traditionally a close match between two experienced sides and the contest wasn’t to disappoint in this Warwickshire League Two fixture. With the first rain for a month falling on the morning, conditions were likely to be somewhat alien for whichever team Danny ‘Tinkerman’ Rowan decided upon. Danny has imposed some strict regimes within the squad; certainly the no alcohol policy for an hour before kick-off was proving tricky for some players and...
Oxford University's preparations continue for the Varsity Match. Broadstreet are pleased to announce that they will be welcoming Oxford University to the Ivor Preece Field Rugby Ground on Wednesday 8th October 2014. Street will be hosting a combined Broadstreet RFC and Coventry Rugby Development side for a fixture with a 7:15 pm kick-off. This represents a switch of venue as the fixture was originally scheduled to be played at the BPA. It will be the second such fixture this season in a new arrangement for the Coventry-based club's that commenced with a match versus Cinderford RFC at the end ...
On a pleasant sunny afternoon a goodly crowd gathered at Chester ’s Hare Lane ground expecting to witness an afternoon of entertaining, competitive rugby football in this National League Two North fixture. What they got was a penalty strewn, error ridden encounter dominated by the whistle and at least a half dozen yellow cards, (some say it was seven, but, either way, it reminded one of a field of rape seed flowers!); reducing both teams at times to thirteen members each, albeit Chester ’s reduction reportedly, came near the end of play. The match started brightly as Chester RUFC kicked off a...
Cliché; the score does not reflect ‘Street’s contribution to their first home encounter of the season against ambitious high-flyers Hull Ionians RFC. Ending in a six to three try count, which included two scrum penalty awards to the visiting team and with a harsh yellow card award for a perceived deliberate knock-on by winger Jeff Gregson, Hull Ionians cashed in with a try either side of the break as ‘Street played a man down. With the score locked at five all approaching half way in this National League Two North encounter, it all turned sour for the hosts as the visitors raced away to 5 – 2...
Thankfully, Trinity Guild ’s first team stepped in at the last minute to provide the opposition for Danny’s Dream Team after Newbold’s 3rds had cried off for the scheduled Warwickshire League Two fixture at the Ivor Preece Field Rugby Ground. We are extremely grateful to Trinity Guild RFC for coming along. With Street facing a mounting list of injuries in the squad, Danny ‘Tinkerman’ Rowan had some difficult decisions to make on team selection. Andy ‘Screech’ Tee was dropped due to his poor hairstyling techniques and in came the coiffured young talent of Jordan Simpson and for the first time ...
Extra fixture slotted in vs Cinderford United to make Saturday 27th September 2014 a Double-Header Day. Cinderford RFC have stepped in to provide opposition this coming Saturday for the combined Broadstreet RFC and Coventry Rugby Development squad. This is after the frustration of a number of late cancellations experienced in the first month of the season in our new arrangement with Coventry Rugby. We are delighted to be able to welcome Cinderford United , as the Cinderford 2nds are called, to the Ivor Preece Field Rugby Ground a nd are most grateful to them for travelling up from their dista...
Leading 10 – 13 at the break, Broadstreet Rugby Football Club’s trip to faraway Preston Grasshoppers RFC ended in a 32 – 13 defeat as their grateful hosts took a firm grip late after a mostly well-contested first seventy minutes to register maximum points. Quite the opposite of last week; ‘Street’s second half performance this time out saw them pass up several scoring chances as time and again half breaks were squandered with a handful of unaccountable forward passes leading to loss of possession, position and, ultimately, composure. Grateful Preston overhauled their visitors in a last fiftee...
