Broadstreet welcome Longton RFC, Street Seconds travel to Nuneaton Old Edwardians RFC, Street Beavers away versus Stratford-Upon-Avon RFC, Street Badgers visit Oadby Wyggestonian RFC and the Colts face Nuneaton RFC.

This Saturday Broadstreet RFC host a Week 9 fixture at 3:00pm at Ivor Preece Field Rugby Ground, Coventry against our old friends and keen rivals Longton RFC, recognising that Street versus Longton may be the most played league fixture over the last decade in National League 3 Midlands(formerly operating as Midlands 1). Not to mention the two meetings of the replayed RFU (Pilkington) Cup tie in September 2000. A striking similarity between the clubs is that both have moved into splendid, new, purpose-built premises - Street in 2001, then Longton with Martin Hamer at the project management wheel in 2007. Their new headquarters, just a stone’s throw from Stoke City Football Club in Sir Stanley Matthews Way, Stoke-on-Trent are the envy of many with an all-weather training pitch thrown in and are a stark contrast to the converted cow sheds and pig sties of their former home at Roughcote. Although we had to be hosted in portakabins in 2007-8 during the development, the hospitality was really good, so making the overall experience a highly enjoyable one, with the clubhouse itself eventually being opened on 7th September 2008. The last time we met was the season before last when, by virtue of a RFU league re-structuring at the end of 2008-9 campaign, Longton were granted a reprieve from dropping to Level Six.Broadstreet-RFC-Clubhouse-Image

Since then Longton’s playing fortunes have definitely been on the up, no doubt aided by the return to the club from Caldy RFC of the Rawlings brothers, Number 8 Gareth and Centre Scott. In the last campaign Longton finished sixth, winning 14 of their 26 matches, with a hefty proportion of their tries coming from the Pack, particularly Second Row – the highest in the division. This season has been far from mediocre, with a six game unbeaten run to head the National League 3 Midlands table and now reside in second place.

Last weekend they suffered a single point reverse at home to Sheffield Tigers RFC to a 74th minute converted try. Longton will be sure to put up a good fight and give the Street a very testing time as they seek to return to the top of the table. The Seconds.

With Street Seconds having been badly let down last weekend by Luton RFC, who despite fulfilling all their fixtures so far this season with a 100% success rate and boasting the best playing record in the East Midlands Bombardier League, saw fit to cancel their game with the Street at 7:30pm on Friday evening. We’re confident that Nuneaton Old Edwardians RFC Seconds will honour this weekend’s Midland Invitation Premiership League fixture at Weddington Road, Nuneaton in a game starting at 3:00pm. Street are handily placed in the division just behind the leaders Hinckley RFC

The Beavers.

As Street Thirds and Fourths, The Beavers and The Badgers respectively, had to combine last weekend at Pinley RFC to provide a run-out for those eager legs, the Beavers will be hoping that this weekend’s visit to Stratford-Upon-Avon RFC will go ahead as planned. This Warwickshire League 1 game is scheduled for at 3:00pm kick-off at Peacecroft, Loxley Road and Street will be hoping to retain their position as table toppers.

The Badgers.

Broadstreet Fourths 'The Badgers' are travelling to face Oadby Wyggestonian RFC at 3:00pm.

The Colts.

Broadstreet Colts return to Warwickshire U19s Merit League  action by hosting traditionally strong Nuneaton RFC  Colts in a game kicking-off at 3:00pm.  Nuns have only lost one out of six and therefore top the league.
