Street boys earn their International Caps!
A mixed squad of Broadstreet RFC 2ndXV, 3rd XV and 8 Colts managed to overcome a massive England Deaf pack and testing backline to run out 33-31 winners. The trial match consisted of four 20 minute quarters and was officiated to the letter of the law with 3 officials in tow. In preparation for their upcoming International against Estonia, England Deaf started with great power and pace to take an early lead and their intent was clear. Broadstreet took some time to gel and establish their mark on the game and soon hit back with some points on the board. The lead went back and forth with both sides scoring 5 tries a piece, the Street played a smarter game and to their strengths, and in the end deserved the win by a solitary conversion.
The match was a typical trial game fragmented with the errors, good phases of team play and moments of brilliant individual skill. There were some excellent performances and the future looks bright for Broadstreet as the 8 Colts involved all played with commitment and maturity beyond their years.
(Tries: D.Phillips x 3, A.Skene x 1, S.Skene x 1. Cons: Daz Watts x 2, A.Skene x 1, D.Rowstron x 1.)
