Manor Park 2nds 7
Street maintained their top spot in the Warwickshire League 3 with an emphatic win at Ivor Preece Field on Saturday. An intriguing mix of youth and experience saw the Street involve 7 colts who did their best to keep up with some speedy vets!
Manor Park started the game strongly using their superior weight to push into Street’s half and claim a penalty which was unsuccessful. It was fully ten minutes before Street combined well to move the ball along the backs for Andy Hirons to squeeze over in the corner for the first try, Danny Rowstron coming up short with the conversion. Street now took control and despite some bizarre refereeing for both sides the game started to flow, and within minutes Street forwards and backs combined superbly and won a scrum 20 metres out, the ball was quick and Steve Allen dummied his way through to score under the posts, Rowstron converting. Ben Shepherd was now toying with his opposite number and after a few breaks, he finally went over to extend Streets lead, Rowstron converting. Despite some hard tackling and determined defence the forwards and backs combined well again with a 50 metre run, the ball going through a dozen hands before Paul Lydster powered over for the fourth try, Rowstron missing the extras for Street to end the half 24 points up.
The second half saw Street make changes to some key positions, but it was business as usual, Park’s kick off didn’t go the ten and from the resulting scrum Collum Berry picked up from eight and beat 3 defenders before getting caught only to pass to Andy Tee who scored with ease, Tee converting. A dogged Manor Park would not give up and laid siege to the Street line for close to ten minutes looking for a try, Collum Berry was harshly binned and after half a dozen penalties Manor Park finally got their reward. Street immediately returned to the opposition 22 and Tee sliced open the defence for his second, converting his second try. A mazy run from Simon Skene again exposed the withering defence and he popped the ball to the ever present Sean Kenny who went over for an excellent try, Tee converting. The game was well and truly over when Ben Shepherd went over for his second, Tee converting and with the referee looking to blow early, Tee scored his hat trick and converted again to prompt the final whistle.
